Educational Assistance
Patients who participate in small groups for support tend to have better medical outcomes than many of those who don’t. These groups offer you knowledge about your condition and the full range of treatments that may include complementary therapies such as meditation, acupuncture, massage, nutrition, Yoga or others that often can increase your endurance and confidence to respond to medical therapies. Plus they offer support and reassurance.
Our educational mission is to help support cancer patients and their loved ones’ bodies, minds and spirit to provide education and understanding of the cancer journey.
We offer weekly support groups, where cancer patients can encourage and each other during their battle. Our Renewal Retreats offer a weekend in a sanctuary with others on their journey to renew, connect and learn.
Other programs include our monthly Caring for the Caregiver workshops that share how to make sure key caregivers are taking care of themselves as they join their loved one on their journey.
We also collaborate with our healthcare partners and the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition at health fairs and initiatives that seek to bring awareness to the community at large.
Complementary Care
Research shows that complementary therapeutic methods can be extremely effective for decreasing anxiety and stress, and improving fatigue and physical functioning for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. These services have special benefits for cancer patients, who are already experiencing both physical and emotional issues during their treatment. As part of their care plan, physicians may refer patients to Cancer Navigators for participation in a new complementary care program.
The program provides the following complementary services at no cost to the patient, with the specific service tailored to the patient’s individual symptoms:
- Chair Yoga
- Acupressure
- Meditation
- Music therapy
