Cancer Navigators Plans Virtual Race During 15th Anniversary
This year marks Cancer Navigators’ 15th year of providing free resources and services to cancer patients in our community and everyone near and far is invited to celebrate by participating in the second annual virtual race, annual Daisy Drop and #fifteenforfifteen Monthly Giving Program.
Those interested in signing up for the virtual 5K and 1.5-mile fun run can register at https://bit.ly/3azBOQn. Participants can choose the exercise, location, distance and time, and can complete at once or in increments.
The 5K cost is $30 and participants will receive a medal and a T-shirt. Those who participated in last year’s virtual race will receive a $5 discount. Runners who register as a team with at least five members will also receive a $5 discount.
The cost for the 1.5-mile fun run is $20 and participants will receive a medal.
“Participants are doing more than exercising. They are also helping to support local cancer patients,” said Sarah Husser, Fundraising and Outreach for Cancer Navigators. “Every $25 raised purchases a gas card to help cancer patients get to lifesaving cancer treatments.”
The deadline to register is June 6, which is National Cancer Survivors Day. On that day, the organization will hold its annual Daisy Drop on the Chief John Ross Memorial Bridge at the Town Green from 3 to 4 p.m. Husser said she will be present to give out the complimentary daisies that pay tribute to those affected by cancer.
Those who can’t attend the June 6 event can stop by the Cancer Navigators office during the afternoon of Friday, June 4 to pick up daisies and plan their own event. Cancer Navigators is located on the third floor of the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center, 255 W. Fifth St. SW, in Rome.
As part of its anniversary, Cancer Navigators has also established a #fifteenforfifteen fund drive, asking supporters to donate $15 for $15 months.
“That $225 dollar pledge will go far in helping local cancer patients,” Husser said. “Like many nonprofits we have stayed open during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer important support. Your generosity will help us fulfill our mission of ensuring no one goes through their cancer journey alone.”
