Public Invited to Create Cast Off Against Cancer Teams
Cancer Navigators will hold a community kickoff for its annual Cast Off Against Cancer event on Thursday, Feb. 28. Community members who want to form teams for the annual Cancer Navigators fundraiser can visit the atrium in the Harbin Clinic Tony E. Warren MD Cancer Center from 5 – 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 28.
The ninth annual Cast Off Against Cancer celebration and daisy drop are scheduled for Sunday, May 19, from 2 – 4 p.m. at Barron Stadium. The event marks the conclusion of a communitywide fundraising effort on behalf of Northwest Georgia’s nonprofit Cancer Navigators, Inc.
On Feb.28, people can stop in at the cancer center and get info, sign up and get their team packet and pick up oars, which can be decorated by the respective teams. For more information on Cancer Navigators and Cast Off Against Cancer, call 706.509.5040, visit www.cancernavigatorsga.org, or stop by the Cancer Navigators office located on the third floor of the cancer center, 255 W. Fifth St. SW.
“We encourage churches, businesses, families and friends to join the fun, create a team and raise money in honor of loved ones who have fought or are fighting cancer,” said Sarah Husser, Fundraising & Community Outreach Coordinator for Cancer Navigators. “There is no cost to form a team and Cancer Navigators is happy to help teams brainstorm on fundraisers and promote fundraising efforts.”
A variety of awards and trophies, from Most Money Raised to Team Spirit, will be presented to teams during the Cast Off event in May. One-hundred percent of all event proceeds remain in our community to help provide front-line services to cancer patients.
Cancer Navigators serves as a complement to the medical expertise of cancer care providers by navigating patients to resources that touch all levels of the healing experience: body, mind and spirit. Services are free of charge to patients, and in 2018, Cancer Navigators served over 1,700 patients with an economic impact of over $2 million.
