Cast Off Against Cancer Raises More Than $72,000
The annual Cast Off Against Cancer celebration has raised more than $72,000 for Cancer Navigators and money was still coming in Monday, said Scharla Battle, Community Outreach Manager for the organization.
This year’s event was held Sunday at Barron Stadium and included the traditional Daisy Drop, held to remember or honor a loved one.
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support Cancer Navigators receives from our teams,” Battle said. “They work hard for months and they do an amazing job.”
The Detectors, a team from Floyd Medical Center’s Radiology Department, raised $12,400 in the months leading up the event, finishing first in the fundraising department. They were followed by the Heritage First Bank team, The Changemakers, who raised $9,354. Paddle Posse, representing the Floyd Lab, raised $6200.70.
Pirates of the Cure-ibbean, from Floyd Quality Management, won the Spirit Award, followed by Rally Warriors, from Floyd Coordinated Care, and Paddle Posse.
Heritage First Banks also won the Best Oar competition, followed by Floyd Medical Oncology and The Detectors.
