Salon Ten 17 Donates Wigs
Each October, cosmetologists at the salon raise funds to purchase wigs for cancer patients by donating their time and services for a raffle that they plan and execute. Raffle items often include big-ticket items such as a Yeti cooler or custom Corn Hole game, along with gift certificates for hair appointments donated by salon staff.
Funds raised from the raffle are used to purchase new wigs for cancer patients. Over the past two years, the salon has purchased and donated 18 wigs to Cancer Navigators.
In addition, the staff routinely donates their services to update the styles of other wigs donated to Cancer Navigators.
“We take wigs that have been previously donated to Cancer Navigators over the years, and we wash and style them to be less dated. As the ages of cancer patients become younger, we feel it is important that we keep the wigs in current style for those battling cancer,” said Cindy Stansell , owner of Salon Ten 17.
Stansell said her staff’s efforts were born from a desire to do something special for customers who had been diagnosed with cancer.
“This all started because several of our clients had been diagnosed with cancer and were asking where to buy wigs. We began to realize there really isn’t anywhere to purchase them locally,” she said.
Scharla Battle, Community Outreach Manager for Cancer Navigators, said she could not be more grateful for the donations.
