Cast Off Against Cancer Event is June 4
Cancer Navigators’ Cast Off Against Cancer is coming June 4, National Cancer Survivors Day. The event’s nautical theme plays off Cancer Navigators name and Rome’s orientation on three rivers and has evolved into a community celebration of cancer survivors and a show of support for those currently battling the disease.
Cast Off Against Cancer is the culmination event of a months-long fundraising effort during which teams from across the community sell t-shirts, host rummage sales and solicit donations. It is planned for 2 p.m. at Heritage Park. Teams will be recognized at the event for their efforts. The team raising the most money will be treated to a catered river cruise on the Roman Holiday, the city of Rome’s river-going vessel.
During the Cast Off event, Cancer Navigators will observe the annual Daisy Drop. At the Daisy Drop, ceremony participants are given single-stem daisies to drop into the river in honor or in memory of a cancer warrior. Daisies are available for purchase in advance online, in person at the Cancer Navigators office and the day of the event. The flowers are $5 each.
