Cancer Navigators to Kick Off Cast Off Against Cancer Campaign

February 29, 2016 · News

On Tuesday, March 1, at 5 p.m., Cancer Navigators will kick off its annual Cast Off Against Cancer fundraising campaign at Heritage First Bank on Broad Street in Rome, GA. Cast Off Against Cancer raises funds that help Cancer Navigators in its efforts to support cancer patients with emotional, physical and financial needs.

“We are so grateful to have Heritage First Bank hosting our kickoff event this year, as they have long been supportive of our mission,” said Scharla Battle, Community Outreach Manager for Cancer Navigators. “Teams from Heritage First have been among our most successful participants, having been a past winner of our Most Money Raised Award.”

During the campaign, crews of eight to 15 members are given the goal of raising a minimum of $1,000 to benefit Cancer Navigators. Additionally, the teams are provided a wooden oar that can be decorated and used as a fundraising tool.

“Past teams have been really creative in how they’ve incorporated their oar into their fundraising efforts,” Battle said. “One team raised a significant amount of money by asking supporters to use monetary donations as a means of voting for their oar as best decorated.”

At the kickoff event, attendees will be given information about how to form a team, will learn important fundraising strategies and will gain insight about the services Cancer Navigators provide to cancer patients in northwest Georgia. Attendees will also receive information about a special guitar auction that will also benefit Cancer Navigators.

“We’re really excited to add the guitar auction to the festivities this year,” Battle said. “We’ll have a number of guitars up for auction that have been autographed by a number of well-known artists, including Cedartown’s own Sam Hunt.”

Cast Off Against Cancer will culminate with a celebration at Rome’s Heritage Park on June 5, which also serves as National Cancer Survivors Day. Team awards will be presented that day for best decorated oar, most money raised and most team spirit.
